Agrivoltaics: renewables that serve agriculture – VOLT at the II Edition Agrivoltaic Forum of Legambiente

Agrivoltaics: renewables that serve agriculture – VOLT at the II Edition Agrivoltaic Forum of Legambiente Yesterday in Rome, at the Agrivoltaic Forum promoted by Legambiente, VOLT took part in the day’s discussions. Speakers included European, national and regional institutional representatives, associations, the scientific community and companies. A shared position clearly emerged: agrivoltaics is a useful tool in the energy transition and, at the same time, a concrete support for the agricultural sector, which is currently struggling to manage rising costs, maintain profitability, and attract younger generations. The model integrates agricultural production with renewable energy without replacing farming activities, preserving the productive vocation of the land while, in many cases, improving management, profitability, and resilience to climate change. In this context, companies are already active, with applications across different crops and uses cereals, alfalfa, pasture, potatoes, vineyards, intensive olive groves, and legumes. VOLT is also working in this direction, developing projects that integrate energy and agricultural components starting from local conditions and in close collaboration with farmers. Agrivoltaics requires strong design capability and careful planning: integration into the landscape is not automatic, but the result of tailored solutions built around each context. The goal is not just to install energy infrastructure, but to enhance the productive capacity of the land and, where possible, contribute to biodiversity. Technology is also playing a key role: electronic components, monitoring systems, and dedicated software are supporting the development of agrivoltaics and the evolution of agricultural practices, including mechanization. Key enablers for scaling the sector include streamlined permitting processes, regulatory certainty, adequate grid infrastructure for connections, and continuous dialogue with local stakeholders. A note of appreciation to Legambiente for bringing focus and substance to such a relevant topic. Find out more about our approach to agrivoltaics on our dedicated page.

VOLT Infrastructure at Fieragricola 2026

Agrivoltaics Moves Into the Operational Phase: VOLT Infrastructure at Fieragricola 2026 VOLT Infrastructure took part in Fieragricola 2026, one of Italy’s leading trade fairs for the agricultural and agri-food sector, engaging with landowners, partners, and stakeholders interested in innovative energy models applied to land use. Over the four days of the event, the stand was consistently busy with meetings and direct discussions. The most significant insight that emerged from these conversations was a clear market shift: the focus is no longer just on what agrivoltaics is, but on how projects are actually developed and implemented. The team presented the company’s approach to photovoltaic development and agrivoltaic solutions, exploring: sustainable land valorization models partnership structures with landowners long-term investment opportunities The event proved to be a valuable opportunity for dialogue and exchange, confirming growing interest across Italy in energy infrastructures that integrate with agricultural activity while generating economic, environmental, and territorial value. Thanks to everyone who visited the stand and shared ideas, questions, and experiences with the Volt Infrastructure team.   Didn’t meet us at the fair but own land you’d like to enhance through a photovoltaic or agrivoltaic project? You can contact us here   Watch the highlights of our participation below. https://youtu.be/PQ0AyVB3B6Q

VOLT at LookOut48: Renewable Energy Market enters the Execution Phase

VOLT at LookOut48: Renewable Energy Market enters the Execution Phase Yesterday in Milan, three members of VOLT Infrastructure‘s management team participated in LookOut48 Q1.26 | Dancing in the Rain, the industry event organised by elemens dedicated to regulatory developments and prospects for renewable energy in Italy. The discussion focused on the corrective decree DL 175/2025, with particular attention to the reduction of the role of PAS, the strengthening of the Single Authorisation (AU), the updating of the rules for suitable and ordinary areas, and the possible development trajectories of the BESS market. Elemens presented an analysis describing a renewable energy sector that is growing steadily but becoming increasingly structured, selective and quality-oriented. Authorisation volumes for photovoltaics are on the rise, supported by more functional national processes, while battery storage systems are taking on a strategic role on a significant scale. Recent regulatory developments — from suitable areas to agrivoltaics and authorisation processes — are redefining project development and evaluation criteria. The picture that emerges is not one of a slowdown, but of a maturing market. With the evolution of regulations and greater visibility on grid constraints, value is increasingly shifting to execution: site quality, grid access, soundness of the authorisation strategy and actual project feasibility. Looking ahead, ARERA’s revision of the TICA rules represents a key step in addressing the issue of “virtual saturation”, promoting the development of concrete and feasible projects without compromising the attractiveness of investments in Italy and the EU. Overall, Italy remains a dynamic and competitive market for photovoltaics and storage systems, where experience, knowledge of the territory and discipline in development are key factors. It was a stimulating discussion, rich in ideas. Thanks to the speakers and the elemens team — especially Tommaso Barbetti and Andrea Marchisio.
